Services We Provide:
Literacy
JLFH strongly believes in the importance of fostering a love of reading in children at an early age. Our signature project “Books for Babies” provides a new book to every child born in the Flint Hills region, as well as information for the babies’ parents on the need to engage their children with reading activities at each developmental stage. It is our belief that encouraging a life-long love of reading in our children will have lasting positive effects in our communities and will further enhance our children’s educations and development. As well, through our literacy focus, we organize annual book drives to redistribute gently used books to schools and other non-profit organizations in the area and have matched older adult volunteers with school-aged children to provide mentoring and assistance with reading assignments.

Do-in-a-Day (DIAD):
The members of JLFH receive great satisfaction by providing hands-on volunteer hours in the Manhattan, Junction City and Wamego communities. All members participate in Do-in-a-Day activities in which we take time to give back to local individuals and organizations that can benefit from our assistance. Examples of these activities include painting and cleaning a community homeless shelter, organizing Bingo for the residents of a local nursing home or helping underprivileged children shop at Christmas time for their families. JLFH continues to make a difference in our communities through our actions and by seeking out new service opportunities.
