Junior League was founded in 1901 in New York City by the debutante with a social conscious, Mary Harriman. In 1921, approximately 30 leagues came together to form The Association of Junior Leagues of America (AJLA).

In 1971, AJLA was renamed to The Association of Junior Leagues, Inc. (AJLI) that now encompasses 292 leagues throughout the US, Canada, Mexico and the UK. The Junior League of the Flint Hills (JLFH) joint AJLI in 1998 and now operated with 70 active members and over 50 sustaining members.
